Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s Mother Released

The mother of Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Prof Kamene Okonjo who was abducted on Sunday, has been released.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, who confirmed her release to THISDAY, said the 82-year-old grandmother, was released hail and hearty early Friday morning.

As is the norm with Nigerian authorities, no information was given as to whether or not a ransom was paid for her release.

While some are of the opinion that there are political mmotives behind her abduction because of Dr. Okonjo Iweala’s involvement in the removal of fuel subsidy, I think we should stick with the fact that she was abducted by criminals who probably want to make some cash for the christmas festivities.
